Robbers flee after failed heist

Kimberley - The crews of two cash vans escaped unhurt after an apparent failed ambush in the Northern Cape on Tuesday, said police.
Captain Tony Modise said the attempted ambush happened between Kimberley and Griekwastad when two armoured cash vans were travelling towards Griekwastad.
Modise said: "The vehicle travelling in front suddenly collided with a Toyota truck coming from the opposite direction.
"The armoured vehicle swerved off the road before it came to a standstill on the side of the main road. The second armoured vehicle stopped to monitor what was going on."
Modise said that, after the collision, several cars stopped without people getting out of the vehicles.
The driver of the truck got out and jumped into one of the cars that headed towards Kimberley.
"The other vehicles that stopped after the collision turned back and drove towards Griekwastad, leaving the two armoured vehicles and the Toyota truck," said Modise.
He said nobody was injured and no money was taken.
Modise said it was suspected that the accident with the Toyota truck was intended to overturn the cash van.
"As the vehicle did not overturn and the crew in the second armoured vehicle was watching the situation, the suspected robbers left," said Modise.
