Cape Town - A Diepriver couple were shot dead on Tuesday, allegedly by their son who is believed to have attempted suicide afterwards, Western Cape police said on Wednesday.
Police spokesperson Inspector Bernadine Steyn said police were informed about a shooting in the suburb at about 19:10 on Tuesday.
On arrival they found a 53-year-old man in a chair in the lounge with several gunshot wounds to the head.
His wife, a 56-year-old woman, was also found with several gunshot wounds to the head. She was taken to a city hospital where she later died.
A 23-year-old man, believed to be the son of the deceased, was also found with a gunshot wound to the head.
He was taken to a city hospital and is in a serious but stable condition and is under police guard.
A revolver found on the floor next to the 23-year-old man was confiscated. He allegedly took the gun from a friend's home on Tuesday.
Steyn said the motive for the shootings seem to be of a personal nature and police have opened two charges of murder.
