  • Johannesburg - A Germiston father scared off four armed hijackers on Wednesday by opening fire on them with a pistol, police said.

Captain Steady Nawa said a 20-year-old man had just parked his Opel Corsa outside his girlfriend's home in Germiston when a car with four occupants pulled up behind him.

Two of the men got out of the car and pointed a firearm at the boyfriend before taking his car keys.

His girlfriend's father, who had come to open the door for him, went back inside the house to fetch his pistol.

He fired five shots at the gunmen as they were reversing the Corsa, Nawa said.

The hijackers got out of the Corsa and ran back to their white VW Polo and drove off. No one was hurt in the incident.

Nawa urged anyone with information about the incident to contact Inspector Jacques Goosen on 082 335 2189.
