Johannesburg - Ekurhuleni metro police chief Robert McBride was in the High Court here on Wednesday to oppose an application for an urgent restraining order against him.

The application was postponed on Tuesday when it emerged that McBride had been told to be in court on the wrong day.

This time around, McBride was not only in court himself, but was understood to have flown in a high-powered legal team from Durban.

Ekurhuleni metro policemen, Chief Superintendent Stanley Segathevan, Chief Superintendent Patrick Johnston and Superintendent Itumeleng Koko are bringing the urgent application.

They claim to have been threatened, harassed and intimidated since making a report on a car crash involving McBride seven months ago.

McBride has denied allegations that he was drunk at the time and claims to remember nothing of the accident.

At the time, metro police were accused of assaulting witnesses who tried to stop them taking McBride from the accident scene, and of trying to cover up for him.

The order sought is thought to include a provision preventing McBride and 13 other metro policemen from coming with 100m of the three.
