Bank bombers find ATM empty ATM 'bombers' die in shoot-out ATM attacks stun bank execs

Johannesburg - An ATM was blasted in Johannesburg on Thursday morning, and the two men believed to be responsible are on the run, police said.

Spokesperson Captain Bhekizizwe Mavundla said the incident took place at a Standard Bank ATM in Magalisig, Fourways at 02:10.

The two were seen going to the ATM at an Engen garage in the area and after they left, two explosions went off.

"The men then fled in a dark blue Golf," said Mavundla.

Bhekizizwe said that when police arrived on the scene, they found cash scattered around, and blood smears surrounding the ATM.

"We think that one of the suspects might have been injured by the explosion."

Police could not confirm if any cash was taken.

Blood samples were taken to forensic labs for further investigation.
