Johannesburg - A man was shot dead and his car hijacked in Sinoville on Friday after his return from abroad, police said.

Inspector Paul Ramaloka said the man was being driven to his Montana Park home from OR Tambo Airport after a work trip to France.

Details are still sketchy but the man who drove him home told police he thought they were followed home from the airport.

The man was shot at on arrival shortly after 09:00.

Their vehicle was stolen.

The driver was taken to hospital to be treated for shock, Ramaloka said.
