'Teachers to work overtime'
13/07/2007 19:10 - (SA)
Johannesburg - Some teachers will have to work additional hours to recover the time lost during the public service strike, trade unions and the Gauteng education department said on Friday.
"After we have assessed the impact of the strike, we are going to finalise our recovery plan to ensure that the curriculum outcomes are attained by the end of the academic year," education MEC Angie Motshekga told reporters in Johannesburg.
"Educators will be compensated for any additional work."
The plan will intensify and fast-track teaching and learning in all grades.
Different schools were affected differently and would be treated differently.
Negotiations with unions were still ongoing as there were some areas that needed further discussion, Motshekga said.
