Woman shot while sleeping

Johannesburg - A 50-year-old Eastern Cape woman was shot dead in her sleep in the early hours of Friday morning, police said.
Captain Jackson Manatha said the victim, No-Fine Spunzi, was sleeping in her hut with her 16-year-old grand-daughter, Nonusindiso Spunzi, in Gwadu Village near Willowvale when a man came through the window and shot her four times. She died at the scene.
Nonusindiso alerted the community and the headman of the village who then called the police.
"The deceased had four bullet wounds in the upper body. Five empty 9mm cartridges were found at the scene and also two live rounds of ammunition of the same weapon. It is alleged that the suspect escaped through the same window", said Manatha.
No arrest has been made yet and the Butterworth police were appealing to the public to step forward with information that may help their investigation.
