Women 'admit' to drowning baby Boy rescued from drained pool Toddler drowns in dustbin

Uitenhage - The body of six-year-old Angelique Van Wyk was found on Saturday after she fell into an irrigation canal two days ago, Uitenhage police said.

Inspector Gerda Swart said the girl's body was found by members of the public at a farm in Kirkwood, around 3km away from where the girl disappeared on Wednesday.

Van Wyk was playing along an irrigation canal at the Broadlands farm, when she slipped and fell into the water.

The child disappeared beneath the surface of the water due to strength of the current at the time, said Swart.

Police divers were called in and an unsuccessful two-day search followed.

Permission was obtained to close the water canal on Friday and the girl's body was found after the water level dropped.

An inquest into the incident was opened by Uitenhage police.
