Pretoria - A suspected robber was killed and four others arrested after a shoot-out with police at an informal settlement near the Carousel Casino on Monday.

Superintendent Vishnu Naidu said the man and his accomplices allegedly robbed Coin security guards of cash.

The robbers, who were driving a Toyota Camry, rammed the security van, forcing it to stop at the intersection of Old Warmbath and Maubane roads, four kilometres from the Carousel Casino near Maubane.

"They removed several cash boxes containing an undisclosed sum of money from the vehicle."

Police reacted to a tip-off and followed the men to Carousel View where a shoot-out ensued.

The man, in his 20s, was killed at the scene. Four other men were arrested.

A BMW, a Nissan bakkie, four handguns and a R4 rifle were confiscated. No money was recovered.

Between four and seven suspects were still on the run, Naidu said.
