Missing man: Farmer arrested
25/07/2007 13:23  - (SA)

  • Govt 'is looking the other way'
  • Farmer apparently confessed
  • Farmer last to see girl alive
  • Johannesburg - Limpopo police on Wednesday arrested a farmer near Gravelotte on a charge of kidnapping a trespasser who has not yet been found.

Police spokesperson Motlafela Mojapelo, said Richard Mkhari was caught trespassing on the farmer's property about two weeks ago.

The farmer allegedly shot four of Mkhari's six dogs and then tied him to a tree.

"The farmer said he went to get a car to take Mkhari to a police station, but found that he disappeared when he got back. He was missing ever since the incident occurred," said Mkhari.

Mojapelo said more arrests were expected as the farmer was seemingly not working alone.

He said police suspect that the farmer was involved in the Mkhari's disappearance, as he was with him last and had shot his dogs.

"The search for Mkhari continues, and the farmer will appear in the Phalaborwa Magistrate's court on Thursday."
