  • Durban - A hijacker has made the fatal mistake of attempting to hijack a Toyota stallion bakkie next to a bank where security guards were off-loading money boxes.

Police spokesperson Vincent Mdunge said Nkosinathi Madladla stopped the white Toyota Stallion in Durban's Jacobs Industrial area, but the terrified driver failed to respond to his commands.

Madladla fired a shot at the Toyota, but unbeknown to him, security guards were busy offloading money boxes at a bank across the road.

The twitchy security guards, believing they were about to become victims of another cash-in-transit heist, promptly returned fire, killing Madladla instantly.

Madladla was out on bail for hijacking and was wanted in connection with two other hijacking cases.

Police at the Bluff police station have appealed to the driver of the white Toyota Stallion to contact them.
