Prosecutor's charges withdrawn
27/07/2007 17:48  - (SA)

  • Prosecutor in court
  • Pretoria - Charges of possessing drugs and dockets suspected to have been stolen were withdrawn against a prosecutor in the Pretoria North Magistrate's Court on Friday.

Anneme Bam, 28, of Mayville, was arrested in September last year. She was granted bail of R3 000.

State prosecutor Tania Carstens said the court had previously ordered a final postponement for further investigation because it had taken the forensics laboratory nine months to complete reports on the substances found in Bam's possession. The results were still not available.

"I contacted the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP)," Carstens explained, "and was ordered to provisionally withdraw charges".

Bam could still be prosecuted once the results are available.

The court earlier heard that Bam was found with 184 dockets and eight charges sheets of cases between 2001 and 2006.

This included rape, murder, armed robbery, accidents and house breaking cases.

In February this year she was arrested again. This time on charges that she had drugged a woman and stolen her money and clothes.

Bam was granted bail of R1 000 and agreed to go for rehabilitation for her drug dependency in that case.

Earlier this week, those charges were also withdrawn.
