Gang steals pension money
31/07/2007 13:45 - (SA)
Johannesburg - Twelve armed men made off with over R340 000 of pension money in a cash-in-transit heist in Pretoria on Tuesday.
Police spokesman Inspector Paul Ramoloka said a Fidelity Guards van, carrying eight guards, was transporting money from Winterveld, north west of the city, to Hammanskraal around 07:30.
They were supposed to deliver the money to a pension pay point.
"They were approached by the men who had been travelling in four cars. One of the drivers rammed into the van from the back with a Mercedez Benz, at the Maseko Junction off-ramp."
The men began shooting at the vehicle and threatened to pour petrol over the van and set it alight.
"They made off with one cash bag, and eight pistols belonging to the guards. None of the guards were hurt," Ramoloka said.
