2 held for robbing teachers
01/08/2007 14:16  - (SA)

  • 'I saw three men with weapons'
  • Teacher hijacked at school
  • Johannesburg - Two of the three men who robbed teachers at a primary school in Hibberdene near Port Shepstone on Tuesday have been arrested, KwaZulu-Natal police said.

Superintendent Zandra Hechter on Wednesday said three men armed with a firearm and a knife arrived at the KwaLuhlongwa Primary School in Hibberdene on Tuesday afternoon and held up three female teachers.

"The teachers were not harmed but their belongings such as handbags and cellphones were taken and the robbers fled in one of the teacher's cars, an Opel Corsa," she said.

The stolen Opel Corsa was found abandoned at KwaHlongwa and soon afterwards the police spotted the three in a green Toyota Corolla in Woodgrange, Hibberdene.

Police intercepted the Corsa and two of the suspects were arrested on Tuesday. The third, the one with the firearm, ran away but his identity was known to the police.

The two arrested men would face charges of armed robbery in the Hibberdene Magistrate's Court on Thursday, Hechter said.
