  • Cape Town - Child murderer Theunis Olivier's frequent changing of names had nothing to do with his alleged multi-personality condition, but was a ploy to evade the law, the Cape High Court heard on Thursday.

Cross-examining Olivier, State prosecutor Jan Theron put it to him that he had changed names to try and avoid arrest for child molestation crimes he had committed in Zimbabwe and KwaZulu-Natal.

"You were trying to stop police from trailing you," he said.

While giving evidence in mitigation of his sentence for the murder of six-year-old Johannesburg boy, Steven Siebert, Olivier told the court his frequent changing of names was due to his condition.

Besides Theunis, Olivier has called himself Charles, Chris, and other names.
