Metro assault claim probed
03/08/2007 15:50 - (SA)
Johannesburg - The investigation into allegations that Ekurhuleni metro police assaulted foreigners after a drug seizure operation in Kempton Park continues, Gauteng police said on Friday.
Superintendent Eugene Opperman said Ekurhuleni metro police chief Robert McBride had handed over a list of names to the SA Police Service.
"It's a list of people who were allegedly involved in the assaults."
Opperman said McBride was summoned in terms of a "205" (Section 205 of the Criminal Procedure Law) to be at the Kempton Park Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.
"The list was handed over at the court," said Opperman.
The investigation relates to metro police officers who took part in a drug seizure operation in November last year in Kempton Park, during which a group of foreigners were arrested, the Beeld reported this week.
The group alleged they were assaulted by about 25 metro police officers during the operation, the newspaper said.
