Cape Town - Four men, who were arrested when police interrupted their armed robbery attempt at a popular bar in Newlands on Wednesday morning, will appear in Wynberg Magistrate's Court on Friday, police told News24.

Spokesperson Siphokazi Mawisa said that the police received a call from Cubana at 08:30, as the robbery was in progress.

The police walked in and arrested two men who were taking money from the staff.

Two other men fled the bar and were arrested outside.

A fifth man, who was reportedly also involved, was still at large.

Mawisa said the man was not there when the police arrived.

An eyewitness, Warren Rohner, earlier told news24: "There was a police chopper circling."

According to Rohner, Main Road between Protea Road and SAB brewery was cordoned off.

    Investigations were continuing.
