Cape Town - A man shot and killed his ex-wife in front of The Captonian Hotel in Thibault Square on Monday morning, before killing himself.
Police spokesperson Captain Randall Stoffels told News24 that the shooting happened at about 07:50 on Monday morning.
Sapa reported that the woman was a chef at the hotel and that her ex-husband was a policeman, based at the VIP Protection Services.
Witnesses said an argument broke out between them, during which the man took out a pistol and shot her twice in the chest.
He then turned the gun on himself.
The man and the woman, both in their 40s, died on the scene.
They are believed to be from Gugulethu.
Captain Stoffels said the shooting took place in an alley between the hotel and other buildings.
Police had cordoned off the area where the shooting happened but by midmorning the scene was being wrapped up, said Captain Stoffels.
An inquest and a murder charge have been opened.
