Pink balloons for slain toddler
14/08/2007 18:36 - (SA)
Johannesburg - The parents of a five-year-old crime victim have appealed to the public to display pink balloons on Thursday in protest against crime.
"Diederick and Anel Esterhuizen's purpose with the 'Pink balloons for an angel' day is to promote public awareness regarding the murder of children, in an effort to ensure that other parents and children will be spared their tragic fate," said the girl's parents, Diederick and Anel Esterhuizen.
Robbers shot Danielle Esterhuizen dead in December 2006, while she was sitting on her mother's lap during a fishing trip at the Riebeeck Lake Recreation Resort in Randfontein. Her sixth birthday would have been on Thursday.
Members of the public, schools and businesses who would like to support this demonstration may call Jaco Matthee at 072-585-0614, or send an email to danielleesterhuizentrust@gmail.com.
