19/08/2007 21:50 - (SA)
Johannesburg - Seven people were injured when a car collided with an ambulance on the N14 near Randburg, paramedics said on Sunday.
Netcare 911 spokesperson Nick Dollman said the accident occurred on the N14 towards Pretoria before the Swartkoppies/Beyers Naude off-ramp on Saturday at around 23:00.
He said the driver of a red Volkswagen Jetta was travelling towards Krugersdorp when he lost control of the car.
The car left skid marks diagonally across the highway, skidded through the middle grassy island and spun before colliding with the ambulance that was travelling in the opposite direction.
The driver's side of the car collided with the front of the ambulance.
"The driver of the car was in a very serious condition and his three passengers were all injured. Fire fighters had to use the Jaws-of-life to free them from the wreck," he said.
Three paramedics in the ambulance were also injured and two were treated for head injuries.
The three paramedics were taken to the Netcare Krugersdorp Private hospital and the four people from the car were taken to the Laratong hospital.
