Johannesburg - Five men, including two cash-in-transit guards, were arrested when police foiled a robbery in Johannesburg on Monday morning, Gauteng police said.
The five were allegedly about to rob a Fidelity cash van at a Caltex garage on the corners of Kruger and Beaumont streets in Oaklands, said Captain Julia Claassen.
Police had been tipped off and lay in wait shortly before 10:00.
The two men in the cash van and three men in a Nissan 1400 bakkie were arrested in Beaumont Street. A 3.8 revolver and an R5 rifle were found in their possession.
The five would be charged with conspiracy to commit a crime.
