Pretoria - A musician has died after robbers shot him at his Pretoria flat at the weekend.
Francois Viljoen, 25, died of his wounds in the Wilgers Hospital after the attack in Glenwood Street, Lynnwood.
Captain Lucas Sithole said Viljoen had gone to investigate after hearing a noise at a sliding door in the early hours of Saturday morning.
"An unknown number of suspects were tampering with the sliding door. Viljoen went to investigate and was shot.
"His mother was too badly traumatised to say if anything had been stolen. We cannot confirm how the suspects gained entry to the security complex."
"The suspects got away," Sithole said.
Beeld confirmed that two cellphones had been stolen.
A friend, Hanno van der Merwe, says he'll miss Francois's voice the most.
"I consider music a hobby, but Francois lived for his music, Van der Merwe said.
They've been friends for 10 years and sang together in the Gauteng North Youth Choir.
Viljoen, who was recording his first CD, played the guitar, piano and percussion instruments.
"Francois was always making a noise with anything he picked up. He was trying to make a living from music, but it wasn't always easy," Van der Merwe said.
