Cape Town - The mysterious death of a De Doorns man, whose body was found minus his testicles, has led to fears that his death may be the result of a muti-killing.
Dino Beukes, 36, was found outside a toilet at his home at about 01:30 on August 26.
On closer inspection it was found that his testicles had been removed. Beukes' sister, Elizabeth Fuller, 38, says she still lives in fear, after his mysterious death.
"I think it was for muti," she told Die Burger. The incision looked precise, she added.
"It's a hole, it wasn't bitten off. We live in fear because we don't know where the enemy is"
An anonymous source who was close to the deceased said Beukes had worked late the previous night and had walked home at about 22:30.
Testicles bitten off by a dog
When Beukes had not reached home by 01:30 his girlfriend, Magrieta Tarentaal, 37, became worried and went to look for him.
"She found him next door in the toilet. She immediately phoned the police," the source said.
He added that the police initially thought that Beukes had died of natural causes, because he had TB.
When the family attended to his corpse, they noticed that Beukes's testicles had been removed.
"It looked as if it had been sliced off. It was smooth. There were no bite marks. So the family phoned the police again."
"The police tore up the existing docket and opened a new one for muti-murder."
He said he had read in two community newspapers subsequently that Beukes had died of natural causes, and that his testicles had been bitten off by a dog, according to one report, and by rodents, according to another.
"I spoke to the pathologist in the case and he told me he could say without a doubt that it had not been bitten off and that his inquiry continued.
"Something sounds fishy. I have no idea what it can be. It makes one wonder: wasn't it perhaps a muti murder?"
Tarentaal said she was still recovering from the shock.
"I feel numb, I don't feel good at all. No, it hasn't sunk in yet. It's worst at night, and then I'm very scared."
Captain Randall Stoffels confirmed the incident and said that a murder docket had been opened.
A post-mortem had been done on August 27 and the result had not yet been received.
