R100... to jump the queue
17/09/2007 21:34 - (SA)
Johannesburg - A man was arrested on Monday at the Langlaagte testing station in connection with a bribery scam, Johannesburg metro police said on Monday.
Inspector Edna Mamonyane said the man allegedly took bribes for allowing people applying for licences to jump the queue.
"He demanded R100 every time he placed someone ahead in the line," Mamonyane said.
A member of the public lodged a complaint with the station manager and identified the man who was then arrested.
"He used to work at the testing station as a security guard," Mamonyane said.
The station had since changed security companies but the man returned there where he allegedly operated the scam.
The metro police were investigating the possibility that the man was not working alone and that he had links with someone working at the station, Mamonyane said.
