Cape Town - The Cape High Court has granted an interim order compelling residents of Cape Town's Joe Slovo informal settlement to make way for a housing development.

The order was made by Judge President John Hlophe following an urgent application by state property developer Thubelisha on Thursday.

It followed a day of violent protest last week by residents opposed to the move, which saw the N2 through the city blocked and several people arrested.
