Bachelor in stag night crash
23/09/2007 09:01 - (SA)
Johannesburg - A seatbelt saved the life of a prospective groom who lost control of his Jeep on the way back from his stag party in Johannesburg in the early hours of Sunday, said ER24.
Spokesperson Riana Beech said the vehicle rolled several times on the N1 south, just after the Beyers Naude off-ramp, at 03:00.
"The vehicle was so badly mangled, that paramedics could not get inside, or close enough to treat the badly injured man," she said.
"Hydraulic rescue equipment had to be used to cut through the roof of the Jeep to gain access.
"The man sustained a serious head injury. He was suspended by the seat belt. That probably saved his life."
Beech said paramedics later learned that the man was returning from his bachelor's party. He was to tie the knot next weekend.
He had been taken to the Flora Clinic in a serious, but stable condition.
"Had he had a designated driver, this might never have happened.
"This single night out on the town, could have easily cost him his life, and shattered the lives of his loved ones," she said.
