Slovo residents gather in CT

Cape Town - Hundreds of residents of Cape Town's Joe Slovo informal settlement have gathered outside the city's High Court to lodge objections to their threatened forced removal.
The court last week granted housing minister Lindiwe Sisulu and state-owned developer Thubelisha an interim eviction order, saying it would hear argument on Wednesday on why the order should not be made final.
The residents have already said they will resist the move to housing at Delft on the Cape Flats, which the state says is needed to make room for new housing development as part of the N2 Gateway project.
At lunchtime on Tuesday hundreds of residents had gathered in the street outside the court, each holding a signed objection form.
The forms were being stamped in the street by their legal representatives, ready to be handed over inside the court.
Police with one armoured vehicle kept a close eye on the crowd, which blocked a section of Keerom Street outside the court, but was peaceful.
Joe Slovo residents two weeks ago clashed with police along the N2 highway, which runs past the settlement.
