Cape Town - The first day of the Lotto going on sale after a six month absence was marred by several operators unable to sell, and consumers not sure where to buy their tickets, News24 found on Friday.
Several operators in Cape Town didn't have the machines yet to sell the tickets, and people who were looking to buy tickets weren't sure where to go.
"I will try to get one today," said Malcolm, who declined giving his surname. "They usually sell them here where I work but I'm going to go down the road and try to get one." Malcolm is a supervisor at a BP garage in the Western Cape, where they were still expecting their machines.
Malcolm added that he had missed the Lotto during it's six month absence. "I used to play every Wednesday and Friday," he said.
Where to go?
Patrick Qave, who works at the Waterfront, said he wanted to buy tickets again but didn't know where to go.
News24 was unable to get hold of Gidani after numerous attempts, to confirm which operators were working.
The newly-appointed operator had said tickets for the first draw which would take place on October 13, would go on sale at 7 000 retailers across the country from Friday, October 5.
As in the past, punters would be able to buy tickets for the Lotto and Lotto Plus draw as well as the Wina Manje scratch card games and Sportstake games.
The first National Lottery ticket was bought just 20 seconds after ticket sales resumed at 06:00 on Friday, Gidani said in a statement earlier.
"The first ticket was bought at a petrol garage in Midrand," said Gidani spokesperson Thembi Tulwana.
Within two hours, Gidani had recorded 122 372 sales transactions throughout the country, he said.
The R15m jackpot draw will take place on October 13.
