Johannesburg - A 15-year-old boy died in a house fire on Monday morning in Flagstaff, Eastern Cape police said.

Police Captain Mduduzi Godlwana said Malungelo Bhovungana was burnt beyond recognition when his room caught fire just before 02:00.

"His body was found under the bed, that's reason enough for us to believe he was killed."

Godlwana said police had opened a murder case because of the unusual circumstances.

"It's not known what started the fire at this stage; we're investigating," he said.
