Cops seize cocaine worth R50k

Johannesburg - Two people were found in possession of cocaine after they were chased by police for jumping a red traffic light, Western Cape police said on Monday.
Police spokesperson Ntobeko Mangqwengqwe said two police officers were on patrol in the George CBD on Sunday when they discovered the two in possession of cocaine with an estimated street value of R50 000.
Mangqwengqwe said: "During a police patrol, a Toyota Camry crossed when traffic lights were red in York Street, speeding towards George Taxi rank."
"Police gave chase and the two occupants - a 32-year-old Nigerian man and a 23-year-old South African woman - were apprehended.
After a search of the vehicle two bags of cocaine were found weighing about 213g," she said.
The couple have been charged with dealing in drugs and will appear in the George Magistrate's Court on Tuesday, police said.
