Cash-in-transit driver averts heist
20/10/2007 19:34 - (SA)
Johannesburg ? The driver of a cash-in-transit vehicle was injured during an attempted cash heist in Alberton, Netcare 911 said on Saturday.
Spokesperson Mark Stokoe said the driver evaded the attempted robbers by making two U-turns before seeking refuge at an Engen petrol station on the R59.
"The attackers fled the scene without taking money from the van," Stokoe said.
He said the attackers may have fled because there were cameras at the garage or too many people moving around.
The driver was hit in the face by shards of glass but is in a stable condition.
Police spokesperson Inspector Trudy Wilken said a Mercedes Benz and BMW fled the scene.
