Abuse at Oprah school probed
23/10/2007 16:42 - (SA)
Johannesburg - Gauteng police are investigating a case of abuse by an employee at the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls.
"A dormitory employee is being investigated for allegations of abuse," said Superintendent Lungelo Dlamini on Tuesday.
This followed an internal investigation of "misconduct" by the dorm parent against girls at the school, located in Henley-on-Klip, Meyerton, south of Johannesburg.
The Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit subsequently received a report and registered a case for investigation.
"Police are still taking several statements from the victims and the employees at the school."
Once the investigation had been finalised, criminal procedures against the person concerned would get underway, said Dlamini.
The dorm parent at the television celebrity's school was suspended for misconduct, the school announced on October 17.
