Johannesburg - Thousands of people gathered at Bassline in Johannesburg on Wednesday for the memorial service of slain reggae star Lucky Dube.

Dube's family, musicians and representatives from various record companies gathered at the entertainment venue to pay their respects in the packed-to-capacity auditorium.

There was drama outside the building as people and journalists were refused entry.

Dube was shot dead in front of his teenage son and daughter in a botched hijacking in Rosettenville, Johannesburg, last Thursday night.
