Johannesburg - A German tourist was attacked, robbed and stabbed between Durban's north and south beaches on Wednesday evening, paramedics said.

ER24 spokesperson Derrick Banks said the man, in his sixties, was walking from the beach back to his hotel when he was attacked.

He was stabbed in the buttocks and his wallet was stolen, he said.

Paramedics treated the man and he was taken to a nearby hospital, where he is in a stable condition.

It was the man's fifth and final day of a holiday in Durban. He would be flying to Taiwan on Thursday.
