Robbers strike in Epping
26/10/2007 07:41 - (SA)
Cape Town - Armed robbers made off with a cash box containing an undisclosed amount of money on Thursday after a cash-in-transit heist at Gunners Circle in Epping, Western Cape police said.
Police spokesperson Captain Elliot Sinyangana said the heist took place in business premises at 11:00.
Two Fidelity guards had gone inside the building to collect money, while one of security guards remained in the van.
Sinyangana said the robbers confronted the two guards, firing shots at them and they returned fire.
"One of the suspects was injured during the crossfire. But the others carried him away and put him in a grey Opel Corsa," he said.
The Corsa was used as a getaway car. They fled with one cash box, he said.
The vehicle was found a short while later in Rifle Range Road, Thornton.
"It was later discovered that the Corsa was recently hijacked at Mowbray," said Sinyangana.
No arrests had been made as yet.
