Gunman opens fire, girl hurt

Durban - A 10-year-old girl was shot in the head and seriously wounded by a man who began randomly shooting at cars in a Durban suburb, police said on Thursday.
Police spokesperson Danelia Veldhuizen said a woman who had stopped at a red light at an intersection on the Hans Dettman
Highway in Durban's Shallcross suburb on Wednesday evening was shot a by a man wielding a "silver gun".
Veldhuizen said details were sketchy, but the woman had told police that a man had jumped out of his car and started shooting randomly with a silver gun at cars at the intersection.
The woman sped off along the highway and five minutes later when she noticed that her daughter was quiet, she stopped the car and discovered the 10-year-old had been shot in the head.
The girl was taken to Durban's Westville Hospital.
Veldhuizen said the bullet had been removed and the woman's daughter was in a serious but stable condition.
Police were investigating and no arrests had been made.
