Port Elizabeth - A meat delivery truck was hijacked and a safe aboard it robbed in Despatch, Eastern Cape police said on Friday.
A Toyota truck delivering meat was stopped at a robot by four armed men in a white City Golf on Thursday afternoon on the R75 road, said police spokesperson Gerda Swart.
Swart said two of the men got into the front of the truck and instructed the driver to take them to Missionvale in Port Elizabeth.
"The had to pull off into the bushes, next to the road. The suspects forced the driver and his passenger into the back of the truck and locked them inside."
Apparently the men opened a safe that was mounted in the cab, took an undisclosed amount of cash and fled in the white Golf.
No arrests had been made, said Swart. Police were investigating a hijacking and armed robbery case.
