Johannesburg - One of South Africa's most wanted criminals was caught on Monday after police received information from the public about his whereabouts, Gauteng police said.
Inspector Richard Munyai said Mkhonto Mandla Cele, 27, was one of the most wanted and dangerous criminals wanted in Jeppestown and KwaZulu-Natal.
Munyai said: "We received information that he was staying at place near Park Station in Johannesburg.
"We surrounded the building and he tried to flee but police gave chase and he was soon arrested.
"The man was previously arrested in Kranskop in April but managed to escape during a court appearance and has eluded police ever since."
Cele was facing charges of murder, robbery and possession of an unlicenced firearm.
He was being held at Jeppe police station and would appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate's Court soon.
