Robbers waited for teacher
30/10/2007 10:59  - (SA)

  • Teacher stabbed at school
  • 20 teachers held up at Dbn school
  • Durban - A Durban teacher is recovering in hospital after she was stabbed and robbed of her vehicle on Monday.

The incident happened just days after a group of teachers were held at gunpoint at a nearby Durban South school.

Police spokesperson Superintendent Daniela Veldhuizen said the teacher was leaving Mariann Park Primary School in Mariannhill when the incident took place.

"The woman was driving out of the school premises and at the gate five men - four with firearms and one with a knife - waiting for her," she said.

"They told her to get out of the car and as she was getting out, one of them stabbed her in the shoulder," Veldhuizen said.

The suspects jumped into her grey VW Polo and fled.

Police have since been on the lookout for the vehicle, which they believe could be used in another crime.

The teacher is recovering at a local hospital.

Last week, 23 teachers were held up at Savannah Park Secondary school, which is situated three kilometers away from Mariannhill.

Jewellery, cellphones and cash were taken from the staff but no one was injured.
