Johannesburg - A 14-year-old boy has been arrested for attempted murder and armed robbery in Motherwell Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape police said on Wednesday.
Police spokesperson Captain Andre Beetge said the boy used an electric drill to open his father's safe.
He removed a firearm and an undisclosed amount of money, after a quarrel with another boy on Tuesday.
"He went to the boy's house, kicked the front door open and pointed the firearm at the boy's father, requesting to see his son.
"The boy fled from the house and the culprit chased him and fired shots at him during the pursuit," said Beetge.
He said the boy escaped unharmed after being chased for about 100 metres down the street by the culprit.
Beetge said the culprit also demanded money at gunpoint, from a taxi driver who had stopped to offload school children along the street.
"The driver gave him the money, before head-slamming him in an attempt to flee.
"Police arrived on the scene and arrested the boy and also confiscated the firearm as well as the money in his possession," he said.
Beetge said the boy would appear in court on Thursday, on charges of pointing a firearm, attempted murder, armed robbery and possession of an unlicensed firearm.
