CT airport 'back to normal'
02/11/2007 18:22 - (SA)
Cape Town - Cape Town International Airport has reopened for incoming and outgoing flights after a plane "became stuck" earlier on Friday afternoon, prompting the closure of both runways.
Airport spokesperson Deirdre Hendricks told News24 on Friday afternoon that the airport had reopened after the plane was successfully moved from the runway at about 17:00.
"Everything is back to normal," said Hendricks.
A clean-up operation had also been carried out to ensure the runway was safe to use.
"We expect to clear the flight back log in the next few hours", says George Uriesi, General Manager of Cape Town International Airport.
It was earlier reported that a plane coming from Johannesburg had problems while landing at Cape Town International, with a front wheel malfunctioning and veering off the runway, blocking the airport's only two landing strips.
No injuries were reported, but all incoming and outgoing flights were delayed.
