  • Durban - A 17-year-old Durban matric pupil was raped at an Umlazi school on Sunday, police said on Tuesday.

Police spokesperson Captain Khephu Ndlovu said the matter was only reported to police on Monday.

The grade 12 pupil of U Section, Umlazi had been studying at her friend's home on Sunday for an upcoming physics paper and was returning home at 18:30 when the incident took place.

She was waiting at a V Section bus stop when a young man known to her, approached.

"He forced her to a nearby school ... and raped her," said Ndlovu.

"At this stage, we are trying to establish whether he was a caretaker, teacher or security guard at the school," said Ndlovu.

The girl was taken to a hospital to receive medical attention.

"No arrest has been made yet but the man is known to police ... we expect to make an arrest soon," Ndlovu said.
