Lotz judgement date set
06/11/2007 16:16 - (SA)
Cape Town - Former Old Mutual actuary, Fred van der Vyver, accused in the Cape High Court of the murder of his girlfriend, Inge Lotz, will know at the end of the month whether he is guilty or not.
Closing argument by the State and defence teams was completed on Tuesday, before Judge Deon van Zyl, who said he and his two assessors would deliver judgment on November 29.
In closing argument proceedings, the State presents its contentions first - which the State in the Lotz case did last week - followed by the defence.
Once the defence has completed its closing argument, the State gets an opportunity to respond to the defence's counter-argument.
However, although the State gets "two bites of the cherry", the defence does not get such a second opportunity.
In Tuesday's proceedings, prosecutor Carien Teunissen presented to the court the State's reply to the defence's closing argument, delivered last Thursday.
She again called for Van der Vyver's conviction on the charge of murder.
