Johannesburg - A 23-year-old man was arrested following an armed robbery with a toy gun, in Berea in Hillbrow, Johannesburg police said on Thursday.

Captain Bhekizizwe Mavundla said four robbers broke into a flat in Berea on Wednesday night, and ordered three occupants and the owner to go to one room.

Mavundla said: "The robbers took cellphones and an undisclosed amount of cash.

"They ran away when one of the victims screamed for help."

He said the owner of the flat chased after the robbers and managed to catch one.

Mavundla said that the owner had several stab wounds to his body during the struggle, while the culprit had head injuries.

All the stolen items were recovered from the suspect.

"He was treated by emergency services before being locked up," Mavundla said.

He said police were still searching for the remaining three suspects on Thursday.

The 23-year-old is expected to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate's Court on Friday.
