  • Durban - An eleventh decomposed body has been discovered by workers in a sugarcane field near Umzinto, police said on Sunday.

Director Phindile Radebe said the body was found in a field adjacent to Umzinto's Shayamoya township.

"The body was in an advanced state of decomposition," she said.

Police believed this was another victim of serial killer accused Thomazile Taki, who already stands accused on ten counts relating to the other bodies found.

Radebe said the latest victim was thought to be a 23-year-old woman. The passage of time had rendered unreadable an identity document found near her body.

Taki appeared in the Umzinto Magistrate's Court on Friday, when his co-accused Hlengiwe Nene applied for bail. Taki has not sought bail.

He allegedly lured the women to Umzinto with promises of work, but murdered them instead. Only one of the women has been identified.

Police are still investigating whether Taki is linked to three bodies found at an estate near Port St Johns in the Eastern Cape, where he lived.

They are also still awaiting the outcome of DNA testing to positively identify all the bodies.
