Standerton - A free-standing Standard Bank ATM has been all but demolished and emptied of cash in an explosion that was executed with such precision that only a single window pane broke in a building two metres away.
The bombing took place early on Tuesday morning at the Autofit filling station in Standerton, Mpumalanga.
Police spokesperson Christina Xaba of the Middelburg provincial tracing unit said police thought that about 12 people were involved in the bombing and robbery.
A security guard told police that he saw three men making off with the cash.
The blast flung the ATM safe door, which weighed about 100kg, 15 metres away.
