Johannesburg - Eskom has recorded a light reduction in electricity demand thanks to all its customers' joint efforts to use it efficiently, the supplier said on Friday.

"Eskom is currently not load shedding. However, as the system is tight the risk of load shedding remains high for today (Friday) should any additional problems occur," the statement said.

The situation could change at short notice but there was a low risk of load shedding over the weekend due to the normal weekend pattern of lower demand.

"Eskom continues to appeal to all consumers to adopt energy savings as a way of life," it said.

Customers were encouraged to visit www.eskom.co.za for the latest load shedding schedules.

Customers could also contact Eskom's call centre on 08600 37566.
