Johannesburg - Three family members were killed in an accident on a bridge near the N2 in Kraaibosch, George, Western Cape police said on Sunday.
"A Nissan bakkie driving towards George allegedly drove into the oncoming traffic lane when a Renault Megan appeared," police spokesperson Ntobeko Mangqwengqwe said.
The accident occurred at about 20:00 on Saturday. "They collided head-on."
The 33-year-old Renault driver and his 31-year-old wife died on the scene. Their five-year-old daughter, suspected to be a twin of the surviving child, died later in hospital.
The occupant of the Nissan Bakkie, a 25-year-old man, sustained minor injuries. Mangqwengqwe said blood samples were taken from him as he was suspected to be drunk.
A case of culpable homicide was being investigated.
