Johannesburg - Eastern Cape police said on Sunday they believe that they have made a breakthrough into a countrywide ATM bombing syndicate.
Police spokesperson Mzukisi Fatyela said a 35-year-old man - believed to be a part of an ATM bombing syndicate - was arrested in Cape Town on Friday.
The man is suspected to be involved in ATM bombings in Mount Ayliff, Qumbu, Tsolo and Libode in the Eastern Cape.
Fatyela said police were following strong leads to crack the syndicate.
"We are following information that might link the suspect to others. We expect more arrests soon."
The man faces charges of the possession of illegal explosives, theft and damage to property.
He will appear in the Mthatha magistrates court on Monday and also faces court appearances in other parts of the Eastern Cape in connection with other ATM bombings.
